Black head ingrown nipple
Q: 3 year old male pit bull. he has a nipple growth in the middle of his stomach directly between his nipples. it appeared to be a black head. it finally popped as he scratched it - i removed the black head tip and treated it with antiseptic to stop the bleeding. however the nipple growth is still there? what should i do about the ingrown nipple? had i not seen it bleed, i'm concerned he could have bled to death. appreciate your feedback.
A: I doubt he would have bled to death as not big blood supply to these. i would have vet check it out as sometimes these are prone to infection and sometimes they can be removed
Supply of medication
Q: Hi there, i live in the uk. i have a 7 year old king charles spanual who has a bad heart murmer and our vet has prescibed the following, vetmedin caps 2.5mg frusemide tabs bp vet 20mg mp fortekor 2.5 mg tabs (benazepril hydrochloride0 i have written the details down as they are on the bottles. my question is , can you provide this medication and at what price? as the cost in the uk is sky high. thanking you for your time.
A: Vetmedin is not available in the u.s. the furosemide is relatively in expensive but the fortekor is available as lotensin and there is no low cost alternative as yet.
Incontinence
Q: Our vet perscribed des (diethylstilbesterol), one 1mg capsule every week, to help control urinary incontinence in our 9-yr-old 65 lb. female pointer mix. can you supply this medication, or do you recommend a different drug, and if so, which one(s) and why? thank you for your advice.
A: This drug is fine. check with 1800petmeds pharmacist for availability. also can use phenylproponolamine(known as proin) which 1800petmeds does carry. either is fine
Shop for: 1800petmeds, proin
Changing medication
Q: My dog, a 30 lb mixed breed, who lives in the house has been on revolution since early 2000. i recently bought another six months supply of revolution at the beginning of february and started the applications. i have given him 3 doses since the first of february and he still has fleas. i know i have fleas in my yard as i have another dog, a rotty, living outside and he has fleas. because he weighs 160 lb i cannot afford to buy flea protection for him so i just use topical. my question is, do dogs get immune to the effects of meds after a period of time as humans do? if so, i need to switch but am concerned about overdoing the little guy. is it safe to switch and apply right away?
A: Some products do stop working in some pets andit may have to do with resistance on flea end which is only inevitable as these are used over time. you could try another product like frontline plus or advantage.
Shop for: revolution, advantage, frontline plus, frontline
Hair loss
Q: Found fleas on my cats neck under a id collar. she now has patches of fur missing, and continuous grooming and scratching. removed collar, what else can i do. she also has some missing fur at the base of her tail. i have sprayed her for fleas, but what can i do for the irritated skin?
A: She should be treated for fleas with either advantage or frontline. also treat house for fleas as well. for itching, try oral chlorphenirmine at dose of 2 mg twice daily. add prozyme and derm caps to meals from 1800petmeds. see vet if symptoms persist
Shop for: prozyme, 1800petmeds, advantage, frontline
Cost of meds
Q: U say u will start to carry cyclosporine eyedrops, how much will they be. and if i order thru u, i will need a prescrition from vet.
A: We currently do not dispense the cyclosporin eye drops. we can supply the tacrolimus eyedrops which are used for the same "dry eye".
Tapeworm
Q: What are the symptoms of tapeworm
A: You will generally notice what appears to be grains of rice being passed out of the animals rectum. these are segments containing egg sacs. you may notice those segments moving. the rest of the tapeworm is secured in the animals intestine and absorbs nutrients from the pet's food supply passing around it.
