Yellow labQ: I own a 5yr old yellow lab, who has black stuff in both ears and black stuff outside his ears, i've been treating him for earmites and it has'nt cleared up. he shakes his head and whines when i clean them. please help! he is an outside dog. this problem just started in all the time i've had him. is there something i can get him in he pet supply store for this? A: You could try broad acting antbacterial/antifungal anti inflammatory drops like tresaderm twice daily to ears. however best to have vet exam so he/she could get cytology of ear discharge to see if is bacterial or yeast overgrowth in ears and culture ears if necessary. also often need to address underyling allergies or thyroid issues in this breed which vet can do or problems will relapse

Specific medication requestedQ: My vet has prescribed megestral acetate 20mg for my cat's skin condition. the vet said it is simply a reoccurring condition that my cat will probably have forever. within a couple of times giving my cat a half of pill (every other day), he stops scratching the fur off and stops drawing blood all over his body. in other words, he returns to the normally happy and moody cat that he is, however, i cannot find it on any of the on-line vet 'stores.' can you help supply me with this medication??? Asprin,rimadyl, or cosequin?Q: We have an 11 year old, 25#, cocker spaniel. we walk for 3 miles each day but a few days she hasn't wanted to walk. she twice has used a 10 day supply of rimadyl when she had trouble with steps and getting up and down. one pill and you could see the difference. most of the time she runs around like a puppy. should we give her something daily (asprin?) or my mother swears by her glucosamine. since that is covered under insurance can we give her that? or do we keep a supply of her magic rimadyl pills if she seems to be having a bad day? thanks! A: I would keep on glucosamine product long term. 1800petmeds has an excellent one called super joint enhancer. i would just use the rimadyl as needed since it rarely can cause liver or intestinal side effects. also consider giving vitamin e at dose of 400iu daily as well as vitamin c in form of ester c at dose of 500 mg twice daily which can also help long term
