Head tremors and clawing earsQ: My black tabby cat was treated last spring for an ear problem which the vet prescribed tresaderm cause she was shaking her head and clawing her ears and now it has returned. the treatment was very long in duration but she finally responded. i would like to purchase more tresaderm. could you answer me as soon as possible. she gets so upset when a vet has to see her. i have to use a mobile vet as i am disabled and can't transport her to an office. Head shakingQ: How is one to know the difference between prescription and non prescription medication when the vet gives you all medications? A: The prescription medication,which by the way we do carry, has a statement printed on the package that reads, to be dispensed by, or on, the prescription of a veterinarian. the non-prescription products do not have such a notation. if you are not sure, please call and we can supply you with specific information.
Black head ingrown nippleQ: 3 year old male pit bull. he has a nipple growth in the middle of his stomach directly between his nipples. it appeared to be a black head. it finally popped as he scratched it - i removed the black head tip and treated it with antiseptic to stop the bleeding. however the nipple growth is still there? what should i do about the ingrown nipple? had i not seen it bleed, i'm concerned he could have bled to death. appreciate your feedback. A: I doubt he would have bled to death as not big blood supply to these. i would have vet check it out as sometimes these are prone to infection and sometimes they can be removed
Expiration datesQ: I have a foster cat from my shelter. she has fleas so the shelter gave my some program to use on her since she is a bit feral and not easily handled. when i got home i saw that the program had and expiraton date of 8/97 on it!! should i still use it? A: No. this product expired 7 years ago. i would order a new supply of program, which is over the counter. i would also notify the shelter to have them remove the expired product.
Cat weight for frontline +Q: I just purchased a 6 month supply of frontline + from 1800petmeds for my 2 cats. the older cat of 7 years is 17 lbs and my 1yr old cat is only 8 lbs. although i haven't received the meds yet, considering the weight difference, would the same amount (one vile) be used on each cat? i don't want to harm them by using too much... thank you A: Use the same product on both cats.

How to re-introduce older cat to use litter boxQ: My 9 year-old cat is both inside and outside. as a kitten he would use the litter box but he much prefers the great outdoors. in his older years i feel he will live longer if we can keep him inside more, but he refuses the litter box and will wait patiently at the door until we let him out. is it fair to him to try to keep him inside now? is there a particular litter now that would entice him to use the litter box? thank you! A: You could try another litter box and a litter known as everclean which you can get at most pet supply outlet stores. if that not help then i dont see problem in letting him go outside
Black mange (scaracopic)Q: We have just recently purchased two english bulldog puppies, when we found out that they have the black mange. we have taken them to several vets and have been using a medication called "paramite", we have also gave them a penacilion shot for four days. nothing that we have done has worked!!! is there something that you can recomend to use to treat them? A: I would prefer ivermectin to treat these dogs. see a vet who will supply this for you
Viokase powder & tabletsQ: I have a female akita that will need to take this for the rest of her life and was wondering if the powder & pills are the same or if one is better than the other. the vet said that the pills may not work as well as the powder. do you know? there is quite a price difference between the two items. A: Chemically the powder and the pills are the same. however, the concentration is different. you would need more tablets for an equivalent dose of the powder. also, i understand there are manufacturing and/or supply issues with viokase. you may have to use a product called pancrezyme instead. this is generically equivalent to viokase-v.
