Help, what type of worm
Q: Yesterday i noticed white, flat worms in my cats stool...i have not noticed them in the litter box before, but she had just gotten out and some feces was stuck to her fur. when i went to pick it up i noticed the white things. they seemed kinda big and long to me..i am very concerned..i gave her and my other kitten some capsules for ringworm in food yesterday that i had bought at a local store...please let me know if this is the right medication or should i get something else or take her to the vet..someone told me they could kill her and i am scared..thank you for your time
A: Ringworm is a fungus infection that gets its name from the lesion it makes on the skin. what you saw was an intestinal worm. order homeo pet wormer and use it for 14 days on both cats.

Specific medication requested
Q: My vet has prescribed megestral acetate 20mg for my cat's skin condition. the vet said it is simply a reoccurring condition that my cat will probably have forever. within a couple of times giving my cat a half of pill (every other day), he stops scratching the fur off and stops drawing blood all over his body. in other words, he returns to the normally happy and moody cat that he is, however, i cannot find it on any of the on-line vet 'stores.' can you help supply me with this medication???
A: I would seek services of another vet. this is a highly dangerous drug in my opinioon as not currently recommended or used by any experts that i know of for any conditions due to cancer risk, diabetes, etc

Feline acne - chin
Q: My 10 year old (15+ lbs.) cat rusty developed a bumpy rash on his chin 3 weeks ago. the vet diagnosed feline acne and advised me not to use plasitic feeding dishes. i have always used ceramic and wash them after every meal. she provided a topical cream to be applied twice daily. i did and the rash became redder and finally became open sores. upon return to the vet rusty was given a shot of "antibiotic" and liquid cefafroxil (5 day supply) with instructions that 3ccs be administered daily. the vet also advised that rusty needs to be brought back in 5 days and i should expect this to be very hard to clear up and ongoing reoccurrences in future. treatment so far has cost $240 and i can expect each additional vist to the vet to cost from $50 to $110. i can't afford this treatment. please advise other options for obtaining appropriate medication for rusty. thanks!
A: You could try topical 2.5 percent benzoal peroxide cream over the counter or perhaps even natural aloe vera gel or vitamin e applied to area. most of time these cases of feline acne bother the owner more than the cat and the more aggressive you get, sometimes gets worse.

Cat weight for frontline +
Q: I just purchased a 6 month supply of frontline + from 1800petmeds for my 2 cats. the older cat of 7 years is 17 lbs and my 1yr old cat is only 8 lbs. although i haven't received the meds yet, considering the weight difference, would the same amount (one vile) be used on each cat? i don't want to harm them by using too much... thank you
A: Use the same product on both cats.

Frontline plus
Q: I give my dog her first frontline plus treatment. how long does she need them? also does frontline plus ever expire? i was thinking of getting the 12 pkg. thanks
A: You should use frontline plus once a month, every month. the manufacturer does not put an expiration date on this product. you can order a 12 month supply.

Head tremors and clawing ears
Q: My black tabby cat was treated last spring for an ear problem which the vet prescribed tresaderm cause she was shaking her head and clawing her ears and now it has returned. the treatment was very long in duration but she finally responded. i would like to purchase more tresaderm. could you answer me as soon as possible. she gets so upset when a vet has to see her. i have to use a mobile vet as i am disabled and can't transport her to an office.
A: We do have tresaderm and can supply it with the approval of a veterinarian. we can call for the approval with your permission.
