Cat eats dirtQ: Sometimes my indoor cat gets outside on me and when he does he eats dirt .i have had several cats in the past and none of them has ever done this .why is this one eating dirt?thanks for your help, rhonda A: Dont know why certain pets do this although more common in dogs. make sure on good natural diet like pet guard or wellness brand as well as supplements like vitachews and prozyme from 1800petmeds. this behavior is called pica and also occurs in kids

German shepherd skin problemQ: I have a 3yrs old white german shepherd. i've took her to the vet before and they said she had a skin disease. i don't remember what it was called. i believe she is scratching soo much, that she is scratching her hair off until skin is about to bleed. what do you recommend that i can use to solve this problem and from occuring again. sometimes she has a runny nose. A: Great million dollar question.. no simple drug will totally prevent which is what sounds like are allergies in your dog. you can try antihistamines like benadryl at 1 mg per pound twice daily during flareups as well as adding fatty acids like derm caps from 1800petmeds as well as prozyme to her food on a long term basis which can also help. if symptoms persist or continually relapse, then you could try low allergy diet as well as have her allergy tested to see what allergic to as often have inhalent allergies and then can have allergy vaccines made up by vet

Aaarrrrggghhh! stupid anal glands!!!Q: Hello there, i have never posted a question here, but it seems quite common to have dogs who drag their butts on the concrete... talk about rough toilet tissue. any way, my dog has allergies to all commercial foods, and some weeds and has been on prednisone so many times her kidneys are failing so she can't tolerate any more of that, and i am at my witts end (pun intended). the vets that i have taken her to can't get anything from the glands themselves and she licks at it, chews at it, scoots constantly and has become unwelcome at the relatives because of it (it's just a little butt draging? geez?!?). :) about once or twice a year, she produces little spots of something black that doesn't clean up (so much for my deposit) and it smells horrid, but this is really rare. there are few people on this earth that i would give my life for, and she's one of them. this pup is my kid, and i love her and would give anything to get this resolved. her kidney function tests are close to normal (slightly high by 20 pts or so) and i don't want to make this worse. what can i do at this point? thanks. A: See vet dermatologist in your area for allergy workup rather than continued just symptomatic treatment. you could ask about new drug called atopica which is nice safe steroid alternative for allergies.
