Expiration datesQ: I have a foster cat from my shelter. she has fleas so the shelter gave my some program to use on her since she is a bit feral and not easily handled. when i got home i saw that the program had and expiraton date of 8/97 on it!! should i still use it? A: No. this product expired 7 years ago. i would order a new supply of program, which is over the counter. i would also notify the shelter to have them remove the expired product.
Hairball medicineQ: My cat has a food allergy to anything containing a fish byproduct. i cannot give her any laxatone or hairball remedies (to prevent her vomiting) because all products contain one form or another of fish byproducts. what hairball remedy is available that doesn't contain any fish byproducts? A: I would try olive oil given at 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily as well as can use wheat germ oil added to food as well or possibly cod liver oil at 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon daily. also use prozyme added to meals daily from 1800petmeds Shop for: prozyme, 1800petmeds Tear staining with our bichonQ: Do you yet have a smaller dosage of the tetracycline? we have drops that we use - i believe it is 100 mg daily but we use it every other day. do you yet have smaller dosages other than 250 mg? our bichon is 24 lbs. what would be a safe dosage? could we do the 250 mg say a couple times a week or once a week? thankyou. s. bourne A: We can supply the tetracycline in a flavored drop with a dosage strength prescribed your veterinarian. ask for a prescription and call us.
OrbaxQ: My vet prescribe a week's supply of orbax for my cat. i just found out on your website that orbax should not be given with food. when adminstering antibiotics for my cats, i always dissolve the pill in a teaspoon of water and mix with about a tablespoon of wet food. this always works on all of my cats and is less tramatic. i do not like shoving pills down my cats mouth for a week or so. why can i not mix orbax with a little bit of food? or is it ok as long as it's very little? A: The way you are administering the dose seems fine, just give it to the cat before you feed it.
TapewormQ: What are the symptoms of tapeworm A: You will generally notice what appears to be grains of rice being passed out of the animals rectum. these are segments containing egg sacs. you may notice those segments moving. the rest of the tapeworm is secured in the animals intestine and absorbs nutrients from the pet's food supply passing around it.
