Black mange (scaracopic)Q: We have just recently purchased two english bulldog puppies, when we found out that they have the black mange. we have taken them to several vets and have been using a medication called "paramite", we have also gave them a penacilion shot for four days. nothing that we have done has worked!!! is there something that you can recomend to use to treat them? A: I would prefer ivermectin to treat these dogs. see a vet who will supply this for you
LevothyroxineQ: How often should a thyroid test be done on a 7 yr old maltese who has been on the drug 2 yrs? how many months of the drug can be ordered/filled by you with a vets o.k. at one time. A: How often to test is dependant on your pets response to treatment. if the pet is stabilized, your veterinarian may only need to do a test every 6 to 12 months. if your pet shows signs of hypothyroid or hyperthyroid, testing may need to be done every 3 months. in stabilized pets, and based on the veterinarians willingness, it is possible to have a prescription filled for a 1 year supply.
Cat is fiv positive and always getting mouth infectionQ: I have a cat i adopted that is fiv positive. jimmy is always getting a mouth infection. the vet has me give him zithromax but it is $45.00 for a 2 week supply. is there anything natural i can give him or something that will assist in taking it away forever. i have had his teeth cleaned twice in the last 4 months to clean out the infection. thank you A: I would have consult with homeopathic vet who can work with you long term on building up his immune system over time. many do phone consultations www.theavh.org. not a quick fix but takes time and patience.

Affordabile medcineQ: My dog taylor has allergys, the problen is the vet is charging me 42.00 for a 30 day supply of tavist. is there a less expensive way of getting it. i cant find it in your medcines, A: We do not currently stock it among our antihistamines, but until then you can purchase it at your local pharmacy. it is available as tavist and the generic product clemastine should be right next to it on the shelf. be careful not to buy the tavist-d, or the generic which contains pseudoephedrine.
