Small white worms in our cat's stoolQ: We noticed small white worms in our cat's stool last night. when we first got her, the vet gave us a prescription for parasites that she contacted from her mother. after we gave her all of her medicine and reexamined by her vet, she was clear of the parasites. is it possible for the parasites to reappear? also is there any medication that can be bought at a pet supply store that would get rid of the parasites? A: In the education section of this website there's an article on intestinal parasites - you need to have a stool sample done to determine what kind of parasite it is. then treat appropriately.||we do carry several economically priced wormer products.
Head shakingQ: How is one to know the difference between prescription and non prescription medication when the vet gives you all medications? A: The prescription medication, which by the way we do carry, has a statement printed on the package that reads, to be dispensed by, or on, the prescription of a veterinarian. the non-prescription products do not have such a notation. if you are not sure, please call and we can supply you with specific information.
OrbaxQ: My vet prescribe a week's supply of orbax for my cat. i just found out on your website that orbax should not be given with food. when adminstering antibiotics for my cats, i always dissolve the pill in a teaspoon of water and mix with about a tablespoon of wet food. this always works on all of my cats and is less tramatic. i do not like shoving pills down my cats mouth for a week or so. why can i not mix orbax with a little bit of food? or is it ok as long as it's very little? A: The way you are administering the dose seems fine, just give it to the cat before you feed it.
New rx needed q year/Q: Do you require a new rx from our vet. for ea. 1 year supply of heartgard? or could i get a refill prn from you? A: It's up to your veterinarian, how often he wants to test for heartworms. some vets will authorize 2 year prescriptions if they know that the pet has taken preventatives every month.

A: I don't know what medication you purchased. if you give me the name of the product, i can try to look it up and answer your question.

A: I am not familiar with a heartworm preventative given as you describe.
Growing puppy, bordering med/lg weightQ: My lab puppy is now 16 weeks old and 40 pounds, and i would like to start her on topical flea medicine. first, which medication do you recommend? also, i'm not sure whether to buy a three month supply for medium or large dogs, since she's medium right now, but will probably be large for her next two doses. please advise, and many thanks! A: I usually recommend frontline plus. you need the medium for now and when the pets weight exceeds 45 lbs you will need the large. the smallest package is a 3 pack.
