Hives
Q: This past holiday weekend my 9 month old chihuahua woke up with something that looked like hives on his head and muzzle. i was concerned and took him to an emergency vet service. they treated him with a shot of benedryl. they said they treat all hives this way no matter how they come about. i was told to keep on eye on him and if he developed breathing problems to let them know and bring him in. about three hours later the hives came back on his head and face, so they said i should give his 1/4 of benedryl(25mg) tablet that i already had for my own allergies. he seems to have lost his appetite. my question is how can these hives be prevented in the future?
A: No sure way to prevent unless find out what he is reacting to allergically which is sometimes difficult. having good supply of benadryl on hand is best you can do
Tapeworm treatment
Q: Cat had fleas, treated. now has tapeworm, tried to treat. purchased tapeworm treatment pills at local pet supply. no instructions came w/the 3 pills. staff in store, no knowledge. how to tx? 1 pill x 3 days, all 3 at once, 1 pill weekly?? no phone number on bottle either. how should it be done?

Question about heartgard medicine
Q: My dog weighs 16 lbs. can i buy a 45/50 lb box of heartgard and break the pill in half and thus have a years supply at the price of a 6 month supply? also... if my dog is on heartgard year round, do i have to have them re-examined every year?
A: To ensure that the pet gets the full, required dose, it is recommended that you do not split the tablet in half. if your pet is on heartworm medication year round you may not need a heartworm test every year. it is up to your veterinarian but many veterinarians test every 2 years for pets on year round prevention.

Q: My son has a 1year old black lab that went blind at about 8 months old. one eye has a detached retina the other gluecoma. my son has to put drops in the dogs eyes and has a prescription for xalatan drops - which are very expensive on his limited income. is there anywhere you know of online he can order this medication that would be cheaper than his pharmacy ($57.00 for a month and 1/2 supply).

New rx needed q year/
Q: Do you require a new rx from our vet. for ea. 1 year supply of heartgard? or could i get a refill prn from you?
A: It's up to your veterinarian, how often he wants to test for heartworms. some vets will authorize 2 year prescriptions if they know that the pet has taken preventatives every month.

Q: Does petmeds supply insulin for them and the needles. mine uses a 29g 0.5 cc, and or a 1/2 in needle. she uses 2 shots a day of humulin n 10ml, 100 units per ml. thanks

Help, what type of worm
Q: Yesterday i noticed white, flat worms in my cats stool...i have not noticed them in the litter box before, but she had just gotten out and some feces was stuck to her fur. when i went to pick it up i noticed the white things. they seemed kinda big and long to me..i am very concerned..i gave her and my other kitten some capsules for ringworm in food yesterday that i had bought at a local store...please let me know if this is the right medication or should i get something else or take her to the vet..someone told me they could kill her and i am scared..thank you for your time
A: Ringworm is a fungus infection that gets its name from the lesion it makes on the skin. what you saw was an intestinal worm. order homeo pet wormer and use it for 14 days on both cats.
