Bladder stonesQ: Our min. snauzer has had problems with bladder stones two times in the past, and is on a diet of hills prescription diet - canine c/d. we are moving to pensacola flordia shortly and wonder if we could use some other food that has a higher acid content that is like the hills product. and does petmeds supply these food products? thank you. ronald. A: As of this time pet meds does not supply prescription food items. i would try and locate vet down there who carries the c/d
Proin for dribblingQ: We are in the military and are soon to be stationed in germany. my 4 year old female shep/lab mix just started on proin 50 but the military vet does not have this available and i have found a prescription supplier that will mail to apo addresses, however they only carry propalin. they say it is the generic form of proin and is a 50 mg tab of phenylpropanolamine. is this true? have you ever heard of propalin? my vet has not. A: Propalin was available at one time as a human use product. most phenylpropaline products for human use have been withdrawn at the insistance of the u.s. government. the only source we found is very careful to state that propalin has not been approved for sale to use on dogs or cats. we can supply proin on prescription by your base veterinarian and ship it to your apo number.

A: It's up to your veterinarian, how often he wants to test for heartworms. some vets will authorize 2 year prescriptions if they know that the pet has taken preventatives every month.

13 yr old poodle wetting in the house.Q: I took my 13yr old poodle to the vet to have her bladder/kidneys checked and they were fine. vet said this is common in older dogs. he presribed d.e.s. capsules 1 daily for 3 days, then 1 capsule twice weekly. the problem is i must get this prescription drug from the pharmacy and it is very expensive. do you sell this? if so how much? if not any other suggestions of meds. i have 6 pets and it is very costly. thank you maryann A: Through our new prescription compounding service we are able to supply the d.e.s. capsules you need. please contact one of our customer care representatives for help in placing an order.
Asprin, rimadyl, or cosequin?Q: We have an 11 year old, 25#, cocker spaniel. we walk for 3 miles each day but a few days she hasn't wanted to walk. she twice has used a 10 day supply of rimadyl when she had trouble with steps and getting up and down. one pill and you could see the difference. most of the time she runs around like a puppy. should we give her something daily (asprin?) or my mother swears by her glucosamine. since that is covered under insurance can we give her that? or do we keep a supply of her magic rimadyl pills if she seems to be having a bad day? thanks! A: I would keep on glucosamine product long term. 1800petmeds has an excellent one called super joint enhancer. i would just use the rimadyl as needed since it rarely can cause liver or intestinal side effects. also consider giving vitamin e at dose of 400iu daily as well as vitamin c in form of ester c at dose of 500 mg twice daily which can also help long term

Skin conditionQ: I have a white toy poodle - he has developed bumps on one side of his body that had green puss coming out...as soon as i realized this i cleaned the area and poured perioxide to "boil" the area....this seemed to help and dry the area...all but in the bed of his hind-leg where he licks alot. this area is still red and looks irritated....what can i do? the other bumps are still there but still appear to be all dried up and no longer oozing with green puss...thanks A: Try antibacterial shampoos every few days with one such as chlorihexiderm shampoo from 1800petmeds. if persists, see vet for likely diagnosis and prescription antibiotics, etc
