Kind of heartworm medication to giveQ: We have a cocker spaniel mix who is 6 years old and has been on heartworm preventive for quite sometime now. we got it from our vet but i guess it leaked out of its vial and we are now out. we usually got a years supply and gave once a month. it was liquid and we gave 0.2cc a month orally and it had to be refrigerated.the f=bottle got wet and the name ran off. our vet is not close and we were wanting to see about oprdering some for her, but do ot know what kind to get. A: I am not familiar with a heartworm preventative given as you describe.
Flea & tick control for puppiesQ: What should i purchase for a growing puppy? he is 15 pounds and about 10 weeks old. i hate to purchase a 3 month supply of something he will outgrow before it is all used. A: You don't say how big he will be. if he's going to be under 50 pounds you could get the medium size of lets say frontline plus and when you put on the first one you don't apply the complete tube.
Shop for: frontline plus, frontline
Tapeworm treatmentQ: Cat had fleas, treated. now has tapeworm, tried to treat. purchased tapeworm treatment pills at local pet supply. no instructions came w/the 3 pills. staff in store, no knowledge. how to tx? 1 pill x 3 days, all 3 at once, 1 pill weekly?? no phone number on bottle either. how should it be done? A: I don't know what medication you purchased. if you give me the name of the product, i can try to look it up and answer your question.
Small white worms in our cat's stoolQ: We noticed small white worms in our cat's stool last night. when we first got her, the vet gave us a prescription for parasites that she contacted from her mother. after we gave her all of her medicine and reexamined by her vet, she was clear of the parasites. is it possible for the parasites to reappear? also is there any medication that can be bought at a pet supply store that would get rid of the parasites? A: In the education section of this website there's an article on intestinal parasites - you need to have a stool sample done to determine what kind of parasite it is. then treat appropriately.||we do carry several economically priced wormer products.
Viokase powder & tabletsQ: I have a female akita that will need to take this for the rest of her life and was wondering if the powder & pills are the same or if one is better than the other. the vet said that the pills may not work as well as the powder. do you know? there is quite a price difference between the two items. A: Chemically the powder and the pills are the same. however, the concentration is different. you would need more tablets for an equivalent dose of the powder. also, i understand there are manufacturing and/or supply issues with viokase. you may have to use a product called pancrezyme instead. this is generically equivalent to viokase-v.
Shop for: pancrezyme
AdvantageQ: I've purchased a 6pk of advantage under the misconception that it is both for fleas & ticks. after further investigation i realized it is just for fleas. can i purchase a seperate tick med that can both be administered at the same time? when my supply runs out, i will order frontline which is for both. thanks A: You can order a tick collar to use until the product is gone.
Shop for: tick, advantage, frontline
Bladder stonesQ: Our min. snauzer has had problems with bladder stones two times in the past, and is on a diet of hills prescription diet - canine c/d. we are moving to pensacola flordia shortly and wonder if we could use some other food that has a higher acid content that is like the hills product. and does petmeds supply these food products? thank you. ronald. A: As of this time pet meds does not supply prescription food items. i would try and locate vet down there who carries the c/d
