Heartgard plus
Q: Hi, i just took my dogs to the vet for their annual checkup and shots. i usually get the heartgard plus for 12 months through the vet. eventhough i give the medicine religiously every month on the same day, my vet is requireing the heartworm blood test at $50.00 per dog. if i buy the heartgard plus from your pharmacy, will you also require, when you contact my vet, that the bloodtest be done before you prescribe the meds? also can i order two six month supplies for each of my dogs? thanks so much, jennie
A: Heartworm products require a prescription from your vet. if the veterinarian you are using requires annual testing then you will have no choice. in answer to your second question, you can order a 12 pack for each of them. if you wish to save money, we can supply the iverhart plus that is the generic equivalent for the heartgard plus.

Head tremors and clawing ears
Q: My black tabby cat was treated last spring for an ear problem which the vet prescribed tresaderm cause she was shaking her head and clawing her ears and now it has returned. the treatment was very long in duration but she finally responded. i would like to purchase more tresaderm. could you answer me as soon as possible. she gets so upset when a vet has to see her. i have to use a mobile vet as i am disabled and can't transport her to an office.
A: We do have tresaderm and can supply it with the approval of a veterinarian. we can call for the approval with your permission.

Kind of heartworm medication to give
Q: We have a cocker spaniel mix who is 6 years old and has been on heartworm preventive for quite sometime now. we got it from our vet but i guess it leaked out of its vial and we are now out. we usually got a years supply and gave once a month. it was liquid and we gave 0.2cc a month orally and it had to be refrigerated.the f=bottle got wet and the name ran off. our vet is not close and we were wanting to see about oprdering some for her, but do ot know what kind to get.
A: I am not familiar with a heartworm preventative given as you describe.

Growing puppy, bordering med/lg weight
Q: My lab puppy is now 16 weeks old and 40 pounds, and i would like to start her on topical flea medicine. first, which medication do you recommend? also, i'm not sure whether to buy a three month supply for medium or large dogs, since she's medium right now, but will probably be large for her next two doses. please advise, and many thanks!
A: I usually recommend frontline plus. you need the medium for now and when the pets weight exceeds 45 lbs you will need the large. the smallest package is a 3 pack.

Hairball medicine
Q: My cat has a food allergy to anything containing a fish byproduct. i cannot give her any laxatone or hairball remedies (to prevent her vomiting) because all products contain one form or another of fish byproducts. what hairball remedy is available that doesn't contain any fish byproducts?
A: I would try olive oil given at 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily as well as can use wheat germ oil added to food as well or possibly cod liver oil at 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon daily. also use prozyme added to meals daily from 1800petmeds

What kind of inexpensive dog food do you suggest?
Q: Hello i have a 2yr old syb husky that i recued from the animal shelter. she is a wonderfull dog. i had been using iam's chicken adult dog food. i noticed that she was eating grass to settle her stomach. i thought this was a break in period till she got used to the new food. i have just ran out of the 40lb bag and she was still nibling at the grass in the back yard. i purchased some wal-mart brand ol-roy the performance dog food for active dogs which she is. she loves it she eats it up like there's no tomorrow. a friend told me though that it is garbage. i feed her a vitamin everyday and also joint suppliments just incase she has any problems with her joints later on. my question is. is the ol-roy dog food really that much different than the other expensive dog food that is on the market. is there a better inexpensive dog food that you would recomend. i seen how you suggested the all natural dog food as the best to buy. please don't get me wrong if i have to spend more money on her food i will do so. but i do not wish to spend more if it is not more of a benefit to her. thank you
A: I will answer your question with analogy about status of our own meat supply whic is certainly in question with mad cow disease and other bacterial parasite risks evident in media. well most of meat that goes into cheaper dog foods is made from rejects of human consumption as well as other horrid sources. i would stick with natural brand foods like pet guard, wyssong, etc. only one i would even consider that is widely distributed is natures recipe

A: I don't know what medication you purchased. if you give me the name of the product, i can try to look it up and answer your question.

Interceptor vs revolution
Q: My 8 month old pup (44lbs)has been on interceptor since about 8wks my question is would it be wise to switch to revolution by getting a 12 month supply.(she is also on frontline + ) thank you joe lo sciuto
